This was a gift for my son and never worked even though it came fresh from the box. It was returned to Bose.

I’m un happy with the portable system… first, you can’t pump up the volume, because the speakers will distortion… second, the battery runs for 10 hours one day, and the next day it just will run for one hour… nothing to do with this SoundDock compared to the old one with no battery… the sound is completely different, being the old one much better… I don’t understand how BOSE does something like this… I’m seriously considering the posibility of returning it back…

I’ve had the sounddock portable for 2 years. I’ve probably used it only a few times, and I recently discovered that it no longer plays either my iPod touch or my nano, either through the dock connector or through the aux input in the back of the unit. It is, needless to say, out of warranty.

Even before it broke, I was really disappointed with the sound quality. I have a set of ancient bookshelf speakers from Sony (dating from 1996) that have much better fidelity, range, balance, tone — you name it. The Bose has really poor sound quality, particularly for classical music (too much base) and vocals (treble is totally lost and everything sounds flat). Even for some pop (like my fave band, The Killers), the Bose had way too much base. It just doesn’t sound like music.

I have six other Bose systems, four in our home and two in vehicles. This one is not up to the others’ standards. Well designed, but the sound quality is lacking.
